I just got back from freaking out my optometrist. Apparently, in addition to needing bifocals (not a surprise), my nearsightedness has actually improved in both eyes, with the right eye improving by a full power (went from 1.25 to only .25), and the left eye improving by .25 (it's always been the worst eye by far). Blew his mind, and he triple-checked it in the usual way: "Now, which one's better, this one or this one? Not darker, but sharper. Are you sure about that?"

Bifocals (not progressives, since I need the broader range of vision the lined bifocals give) are damn expensive even with the insurance giving me a break.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

A popular Chicago grade-school principal died yesterday during a root-canal. Weird. Anyway, some of the comments of her students are making me tear up....

Students said Watson was actively involved with activities at the school, dressing as a fairy for Halloween, dancing at a school dance last Friday, and helping 7th- and 8th-graders choreograph a dance for a school talent showcase this week.

"I had a lot of fun with her," said 8th-grader Max Quinones, 14. "I'm not going to be able to learn, because I'm going to be thinking of her all day."

Fifth-grader Joseph Torres, 10, said Watson helped him do better in school the last couple years.

"She changed my life by helping me out and giving me advice about not hanging around bad kids," Torres said. "Mrs. Watson was a pretty cool principal."

I heard about that death on the radio this morning. Just goes to show that you can never rely on anything being foolproof, especially when anesthesia is involved. There was a case earlier this year where a dentist put a little girl under for a tooth extraction and she died.

In mememe stuff, these are the frames I picked. They were the first ones I tried on, and I ended up sticking with them.

Cute frames, Kathy! That's strange but neat about your vision improving.
