I hope I didn't suggest that my dad was a monster about it. I think he did the best he could, all things considered (and those things being that his parents were almost certainly very cruel punishers, that he was still in his very early 20s when they had me, that he's not much of an independent thinker at his best, and, especially, that his only-slightly older brother abused his kids so much that it's taken years for them to have any sort of relationship with him).

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Sometimes I like to troll craigslist looking at apartment listings. I just came accross one that says "We ask that all tenants provide us with a police report showing a clean record before we consider you as a tenant. ". Does that seem weird to anyone else. Also, how do you do that-- walk into the police station and have them print up nothing?

hip deep in pie

I was never spanked. Threatened to be spanked a lot. But mostly the sheer volume of my mother yelling at you made to stop whatever you were doing.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CaBil!!!!

I think I was spanked, but at an age too young to remember, and probably for something like running out in to the highway. My dad had a much more effective way of tearing me down verbally.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I hope I didn't suggest that my dad was a monster about it.

God, not at all. Sometimes I think the best (and hardest) thing anyone can do is to try to do better than their parents, no matter how "good" or "bad" their parents did.

Trust my rage

sophia, I do think it is unusual but you can get a "no police record" from most police stations.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

We got spanked once in a while. Not with a belt or hairbrush or anything. My dad did smack me upside the head a couple of times that I recall, for mouthing off--which is not good, but his parents beat him regularly, so it was a huge improvement. I know he felt bad about it and apologized when I was older, but it only happend a few times, and each time I had been REALLY pushing the limits, so I don't feel bad about it.
