not only was I pressured this year to be sure to attend, but when I said that mac would not be coming because he won't eat any of the food where we are going (dim sum) - I was told "I don't care if he eats there or not" and then pressured to bring him to play with the big boss' child. I was so caught off guard I said ok.
So rude!
Our thing is in the day, and spouses etc. are invited, which I just think is so crazy. Most people here have spouses who have jobs of their own!
We are supposed to bring spouses (which I don't have).
You have to get a spouse before the party? Man, that's a lot more trouble than just brining a potluck disk.

I agree. Our weekend extravaganzas just before Christmas are killing me, and I don't even have much family.

Definitely better than a kick in the face. Although last year's day event in a BAR was more of a gift, IMO.

I was once at a wedding reception seated at a table that was ALL single people without dates. Which would have been handy if everyone else waan't related, and I wasn't really interested in hooking up at my friend's brother's wedding, with my friends cousins.
Ours is during the day. And charging it to an job code is frowned on. And there is booze. About 3/4 of the group can use partial vacation days. The rest can't. I make myself seen and then leave.
Cute little bird outside the window. Very wee and round like a golfball.
Oh& I saw a racoon the other might on the way home. Which isn't remarkable except it climbed out of the gutter on a very busy street, looked around and toddled back in. It was strange.
