Zeppelins to come to San Francisco: [link]
Airship Ventures, a company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has a thing for rigid helium filled airships. They plan to bring a modern carbon composite Zeppelin and offer sightseeing flights around the Bay to the public for $250-500 a ride, perhaps as soon as October 2008.

I'm accidentally watching the local news, and now I'm all nervous about flying tomorrow. But it's still the shuttle! They still have their own security area for two flights out per hour! OK, they sometimes let other flights leave from down there, but still -- I've never waited in a line there ever.
I am sadly over Nip/Tuck. It's just not fun anymore.
Agreed, but we're tuning in for Julia's storyline!

Yes!!
I need a Zeppelin.
Also, Dana? I have cherry pie. Get into the pneumatic tube and drop on by.
I'm surprised I can still be surprised.

The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.
To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.
Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.
Dude! How gifted do you have to be to be in the gifted program?
Your Program May Vary, but IIRC, the cut off at my elementary was somewhere in the 130s, and I recall the shocked rumors that one kid who came into the class only had an IQ of 133. He didn't last long in the class. Went back to being home schooled, actually. He was kind of antisocial and from a freaky conservative household.

I feel that it will disappoint.

Huh. OK. I"m wondering, if 100 is supposed to be "average", at what point people are noticeably smarter/dumber than average. Hm. I mean, I'm sure to a certain extent it depends on the person and where their talents lie and how good they are at hiding dumb, or how obnoxious they are about being smart, or whatever. But.
All this Nip/Tuck talk is making me glad I gave up the show.

This is particularly unconscionable, but this sort of thing happens a lot. The DoD has all these weird rules about what you are and are not entitled to. Most of it makes sense on paper but when it plays out in the real world, it looks really unfair. In our own case, the Army owes us $1700 that they took back incorrectly but we can't find the paperwork (the Army destroyed it after a few years) to prove them wrong. And that's with Joe and I both being (former in my case) officers, pretty good records at home, and pretty tenacious. I can't imagine fighting this battle as a recently wounded, younger soldier with less rank and experience fighting the finance system.
