Yeah, I tried the Diet Coke Plus and it was oddly nast.

Thanks GC! I'll add you to the list.
Today is never going to end, and I really want it to.
Speaking from the future, I can assure you that it will. Evenually.
I don't think what is or isn't mainstream matters for geekdom. Geek = more than average interest in. There are knitting geeks, and cooking geeks, and dog geeks, and cigar geeks. See also, "to geek out over."
I've always liked this distinction:
A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.Though obviously they can overlap, and often do to some degree. Make a Venn diagram for the categories and try to place your friends and family appropriately! Then show it to them all for Thanksgiving and start the best fight ever!
Er. In probably relevant news, my big plans for the weekend are to catch up on my sleep.
That's just why I'm happy to call myself a nerd, less happy to be called a geek.
I stick with "a little off." Covers a multitude of things.
I knew there was a geek/nerd distinction but I can never remember what it is. If I start trying to figure it out from first principles I get all hung up on the guys biting heads off of chickens.
Eta what I was actually meaning to say: I don't know how to apply that distinction to myself. In any given subject, my depth of knowledge is quite shallow, especially compared to real experts/fans/geeks. But my wide-ranging shallow store of trivial knowledge doesn't really add up to academia, either.
I really like Tyra's haircut. Wish I could pull it off.
Secret Santas, you can thank me later: [link]

Hey, you were right!
