I don't get how that works. Once a check "clears" a bank, how can they come after you for the money? Isn't that why, even in this electronic age, some checks take days to clear? Or, are people not really waiting for official clearance?
Counterfeit certified checks can take weeks for banks to pick up the fraud. Meanwhile the scammers push the marks to wire them some of the "excess" funds. The mark figures that a) certified means the check is pre-cleared; b) a few days should be enough time if it still needs to be cleared; and c) if the bank screwed up it's their problem. Wrong on all counts. And once the "excess" funds are wired overseas, they're non-recoverable.

If you read the example listed above, they used a faked cashier's check from a defunct bank -- so that it would take much longer to get cleared/rejected than usual.
I hope erika's brother reads through that whole example, it's eye-opening.
See, this whole thing reinforces my unwillingness to deal with anybody who can't spell or use grammar correctly on the internet. (Which I know is not fair; my own husband is a bad speller, but still.)

This next week is going to be insane. I have a major software install that'll last 2 days. On those 2 days, I also have to make a late morning vet appointment (and of course, Devi's digestive tract started acting normal right AFTER I made the appt) and leave early for a haircut appt that I made 6 freaking weeks ago, because it was the soonest.
Yay! I had a croissant! And I think it might have been OK to cook up this morning -- I was expecting it to get much bigger before cooking, but it did puff way up in the oven.

My fucking DVR is frozen up again. Like, turning if off has no effect. Luckily, it's frozen up playing a show I want to watch, unlike last time, when it froze up while I was fast-forwarding, but still.
Edit: I take it all back! Apparently hitting post was what fixed it.
