Upon falling asleep last night I came to the conclusion that Reavers = psychotic Klingon's without all the honor and more of the bloodlust.

Sort of. Though Joss claimed that the Burt Lancaster movie Ulzana's Raid was the inspiration for them, and the brutality of both the Apaches and Calvary in that movie is very Reaveresque.
