they do want someone else, but they still don't want me; they strongly feel I wouldn't be a good match.
WTF?!? Are they smoking crack? Who wouldn't want you to work for them? {{{{{JZ}}}}
So I just got an email from my dad. Looks like he's going to be coming to SoCal with the Red Cross (he's a consistent volunteer--spent a few weeks in LA after Katrina and has continued to go to other disasters ever since). I don't know where they'll station him yet, but I'm hoping that maybe he could stay with us. It's a long shot, but it will make me feel a little bit better to have him near for at least part of each day.
Oh JZ, that's just horrid. Still, it means you are available for the Perfect Job, which is just about to cross your path.
Flipping baby!
Oh, and it totally first-world problems, my neighborhood has become a traffic mess because of the World Bank meeting.
Yeah, my DH worked all weekend for this, but has managed to not complain (or get hit with a brick) about the Foggy Bottom walk.
I just got back from an excellent seminar on Virtual Worlds (WoW, Second Life, etc). Holy crap were those folks smart. I haven't been in a room with that kind of brain power since...maybe ever. Certainly college.

Ooh, that sounds so cool! I'm jealous!
ugg.
strike one: running late, no time to pick up breakfast
strike two: left lunch at home
strike three: have to walk thru fun ash-wind to get lunch
Does this mean I can go home?
ION, has anyone heard of Blackle? A search portal that uses Google, but is a black background/ Handy for us theater folk, but supposedly saves an incy bit of energy:
Blackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen." Roberson et al, 2002. In January 2007 a blog post titled Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the energy savings that can be achieved and the cost in terms of readability of black web pages. We believe that there is value in the concept because even if the energy savings are small, they all add up. Secondly we feel that seeing Blackle every time we load our web browser reminds us that we need to keep taking small steps to save energy.
The energy savings are only there for CRT monitors.
I'm not having a good week at work. Actually I haven't felt like I've had a good week since my supervisor left. Oddly enough everyone else seems to think I'm doing a good job, which just confuses me. I feel like I'm hiding things from them and when they find out they'll want me to leave.
This is in part based on how I've slacked off in some areas and have a ton of filing that needs to be done that I keep putting off. And I've been late. quite a bit. So I keep waiting for the reprimand to happen that never seems to and it's tense making.

yes. And those are waning in popularity. But in a dark theater, it helps he eyes from having the nice white glare of the white google page. It's like the Goth Google ;)
Oh JZ, I'm so sorry for the un-good feelings...AND, Sparky is indeed wise. Bad fits are nobody's friend. Something better must be in the wings.
Many wishes that the best thing happens sharpish and dispels the dread like a glorious sunrise dusting a vampire we don't like.
"Oh, ita. I just dusted Dick Cheney. That's Okay, right?"
(ita's migraines clear up. Doctors are baffled.)
