You definitely need to get Super Mario Galaxy (if she doesn't get it herself before Xmas)
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

I'm feeling a case of the blahs. Which is silly, because things are generally pretty good right now.
So, this date that I went on Monday, it went pretty well. Good time had. Not the most exciting chemistry ever - I didn't come out of it panting or anything - but definitely interested in seeing her again, because there was distinct chemistry potential. I'm thinking dinner on Saturday, followed by some sort of event. Should I call today to ask her out, or wait until tomorrow? I don't know the rules.
Skipping in to tell Fay that, if you ever need to shut these people down cold, say that Camille is "mal élevé" (ill-mannered, i.e., badly raised)--it's the worst thing you can say to a French parent.
I'm sure there are people here that were double promoted (Kristin? I know I've had this conversation with you before.)Oh hell noes. My parents never would have let me be promoted. I was perfectly happy to stay where I was. The only year-skipping I did was in college when I did the BA in 3 years instead of 4. Because I am a mosochist and didn't realize how friggin' awesome the freedom of college actually is. Sigh. My issues, let me show you them. But seriously, my parents and I share a passionate belief as educators the jumping grades is a very bad idea in most cases. If a student truly needs that much more challenge, then it's time to find scholarships for specialized schools so she can be with other kids who learn at her level, but the social/emotional costs of grade jumping in a normal school environment are pretty severe. There's even been some research linking higher suicide rates with kids who have been promoted early. Kind of scary. I'm sure it works out now and then, but I wouldn't recommend it 99% of the time.
Fay, I'm so very sorry about the situation. It really is difficult to be sweet and kind to a student when his/her parents are driving you batshit or questioning your skill/judgment as a teacher.
Connie, I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your cat. I'm sure he had a wonderful life with you.
Sox, I skimmed over what people are wishing you luck for, so I'm going to go back and check that in a second.
GC, you will love Erin McKeown. I have a bunch of her CDs if you ever want to check them out.
Gris, screw the rules. If you want to call her today, call her today. I would be flattered, if I were her.
ETA: Sox, ah, job stress! My sistah! All the luck in the world in finding a new one.
HAPPY JULIANA NEW YEAR! So glad you're alive and kicking (ass)!
So is there anyone else who rarely experiences chemistry on a first date?
GC, I also recommend Erin McKeown for people who would like Erin McKeown.
Connie, I'm sorry about your cat.
Gris, I agree with Kristin.
Happy Juliana Day!
Oooh, look at megan, giving Fay a secret weapon for French parental devastation. Between that and the fact that Tep and Nora not only had a cross-post, but a cross-pssst, I am utterly bewitched by the Buffistas this morning.
Happy New Year, juliana (and continued blessings on the medical team who kept you whole and lovely)!
Happy Birthday, ChiKat!
And, eep! I made it to the second interview stage with the big muckety-muck at the multicampus research institute at Mission Bay. Friday at 1:30. I'm also playing email-tag with an HR staffer at a downtown architecture firm about a second interview there, for tomorrow or Friday. If I blow both these interviews, I'm going to be one sad little toaster.
