Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

We made a way yummer brown butter squash soup on Sunday. Basically you roast a couple pounds of squash in the oven until soft and a bit browned. For the browned butter, take a stick of butter (the recipe asked for two sticks, but I balked) and heat in a pan until it separates and browns, then put it in an ice bath to cool. When both are prepared, all you do to assemble the soup is blend the squash with 4 cu broth, then drizzle in the butter through the top of the blender. Add salt and pepper.

Simple and delicious.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Particularly because of the cow.

There was a duck too! So random.

For krav teaching we're told "Praise, correct, praise." I have to praise the students twice for each time I correct something they've done wrong? As if. Okay, I'm not that bad, and neither are they. But I do not stick to that formula. I praise anything that stands out as "that's as good as I was going to teach it today" or any marked attempt to hew to a correction of mine.

Insurance won't cover my pain meds yet. So I'll be paying for them myself, because I'll be damned if I'm waiting until next week. I feel sordid.

The caption for that picture is amusingly almost-random.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It's hard doing non-desserts because you really need something that's going to be okay at room temp or cold.

Ah -- I was kind of wondering about your heating options. How about a nice spinach salad with craisins and walnuts and some kind of cheese?

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

oh heavens ... the "commentary" reminded me - I work for an association and our conference is this week (note that I am NOT attending/working). Well, the opening day is Halloween; the keynote speaker that day is a former sports star. So ... someone came up with the bright idea of mandatory staff costumes. Originally they were going to give people several to choose from including a cheerleader. Not as revealing as the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, but not something that says "responsible professional." And they thought I was making a ridiculous fuss about it, saying that it wasn't really the best idea. Eventually, they decided on referee costumes for the entire staff ... some of them are getting silenced whistles.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Little bitty turtle for Jess.

Oh, HELL, no.

Yeah, that.

I was supposed to go to a "dress as your favorite dead person" party this weekend, and my big plan was not to dress up, and just name someone at random if anyone asked who I was supposed to be.
