Today we're taking a server I helped build and using it to replace another server that's used pretty heavily by our big client. So at 5:00 we're doing the switchover. If all is well I can go home then, if not, I get to stay late and fix it.
Anyone wanna lay odds on me having to stay late?
(Well, if I do have to stay late there's a good chance it'll be my fault. Somehow, that makes me less annoyed at the possibility of working late.)
I've been to that place in San Antonio. Yes your car will roll off the tracks, this is because you are going downhill. It looks level, but it isn't. If you check it out carefully, pour water on the road and such, it's pretty easy to see that looking level is an illusion.
Let's say you want to rob a store, so you climb into a vent on the roof to get in, but then you get stuck for eight hours. How do you explain why you're there whey rescue you?

"I heard a cat in the thing. I was trying to chase the cat," Mumani told the Ocala Star-Banner. He denied attempting to steal prescription drugs. "No, sir, it's a feline cat -- a little animal."
Sure, blame the cat.
I had what I hope was my bad day yesterday--I came home to find the freezer door wide open (I apparently hadn't closed it all the way that morning), the last of the kitchen light bulbs burnt out (they really do all go at once!) and me without any replacement bulbs of the proper wattage, I forgot to get quarters for laundry before leaving work, and I stopped by the auto parts store to pick up wiper blades only to find that, since the redesigned Civic is only a few years old, they were special order only and were damn expensive ($33 after the 25% discount). Oh, and I stepped in the cat's puked-up kibble that was mostly dry and a PITA to pick up off the carpet as a result.
All in all, a wonderful day!
with so many people these days having cameras, camera phones, camcorders etc. you'd think there'd be a lot more photos of UFOs and ghosts now than in the past. Maybe ghosts don't appear in digital photos?
Digital photos don't give you double exposures and developing errors. I think the trend now is orbs (light artifacts) that you can't see directly but can when using flash photography. There are gobs of those.
I thought caffeine was making me edgy so I went without today. I guess I am slightly better, but I just yelled "No MORE Questions! I have no more answers, I can't solve anything else today."
On the other hand, proficiency with Photoshop is way up, too.
I wish I hadn't lost some of my photoshopped (well, not using Photoshop but I think the verb is generic) pictures. Sticking people and animals into photos is sort of fun.
Well, crazy!boss came to her senses and approved my leave. Control freak that she is, however, she made it a point to hand me the leave slip in the middle of our "diversity celebration" meaning that I had to carry around this piece of paper through lunch and the ceremony.
WHile I"m not sure it was intentional, I don't think it was an accidnet. She just had to make it inconvenient in some way or she wouldn't have "won".
