Giles, if you would like to get by in American society, then you are going to have to follow our traditions. You're the patriarch. You have to host the festivities, or it's all meaningless.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

If my parents were going to be here that long I would assume that they were using my house as a base for traveling

Hah. And hah. No. Dad fixes things around the house and reads, and Mom... reads. That's all they do when they visit, unless we insist they go out with us to something, and often not even then, as Mom isn't into walking, like, at all. So we might shop a bit with her, or take Dad to a ballgame, and that's about it.

I love my parents but their visits usually involve me locking myself in my bedroom with my laptop periodically.

Oh, Corwood, I'm so sorry.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Automatic.

I think there are some models that come standard, with the gearshift on the steering column, but the model on the show is automatic.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Well, it's not tense anymore.

Do you happen to know (I'm too lazy to look for screencaps) if it's Powerglide or Turbo-Hydramatic?

Heh. You know how you can twirl your finger in front of your temple to indicate crazy? We need a similar hand gesture to indicate: "Super obsessive research mode."

It's just that I keep a 1967 owner's manual beside my bed, and keep meaning to look that up...
