Spike? It's you. It's really you! My therapist thought I was holding on to false hope, but…I knew you'd come back. You're like…you're like Gandalf the White, resurrected from the pit of the Balrog, more beautiful than ever. Oh…he's alive Frodo. He's alive.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

My previous pie crust recipe was from CI--I think it's why I signed up at cooksillustrated.com on Betsy's recommendation. Took more muscle than any I'd used before, but that fucker was flakey good. If they think this one is better, that's pretty cool.

hip deep in pie

They promote this one as having consistent results. They seem to do a pie crust almost every year.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Also, just talked to my parents. They want to fly out for Christmas on December 14th. And then fly home after New Year.

... isn't there some kind of rule about how long your parents are supposed to stay with you?

Holy shit, this is nuts. Parents, like fish, start to stink after the third day.

(I don't know if we've ever done a rundown of buffistas who catch that reference, but I bet it includes Plei.)

If it's as good as the other one and less work, I'm all over it. That must have been a fun brainstorm to get to the evaporating liquid.

I am as one with the Buffistas on the suckage of Tom's work right now, and on how long family can come stay. I mean, if they're moving in, it's one thing. Visits? Have to be short if they're going to be demanding pieces of you.

And how often does family not?

Okay, off to work out how to play FreeCiv.

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone, and thanks to Erika for saving the "Austin cocksucker" 'til later.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

If my parents were going to be here that long I would assume that they were using my house as a base for traveling The last time my parents were her for an extended time we sent them down the coast. of course - that was when there was a huge earthquake that knocked down the clock tower in pasa robles. So my parents had a twist " our kids sent us to a lovely B&B for christmas, we had no idea that it was a plot to bump us off..."

and Tom, really sorry

K's family just left this morning. They were only here for two nights...I'd have preferred that they had stayed longer. Also, it was a blessing to have my mom here for a month. I'd be thrilled if she would come back in January for another month or two, but that's because I can use all the help I can get right now.

Tom's work = not cool. Verra sucky.

The Noah's Ark exhibit was fun... lots to look at and do. If you have a toddler, I'd assume it's even better because plenty to crawl on, in and around. My Noah is utterly spent though. Poor poor noodle.

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

I'm at work now. This really blows.

It both blows and sucks. And not in a fun way.

If my parents were to visit for any length of time, I would think the Apocalypse had arrived. My mom has visited 2 times. Both times when I was in the hospital. My dad has never visited and with his health the way it is now, he cannot visit.

My mom's here right now, falling asleep on my couch even though I told her to go to bed. She came in on Friday for her 50th class reunion, and is flying back on Tuesday morning, so she dropped her rental car off at O'Hare tonight and I picked her up for the next 1 1/2 days. Just long enough for some shopping and a manicure, and possibly a movie.
