"In the equation E = mc⬧, c⬧ is a pretty big honking number." - Scola

Okay, so Virginia has instituted these ruinous fines for reckless driving (see here), which most of us agree are a pretty dumb idea. But... knowing that that's the law, and knowing that you've been caught doing 89 in a 55 zone, why would you then swear at the judge who's handing you the fine? Is it likely to make anything better?

Okay, that's the best idea EVAR in my world. I think everyone should have to drive 30mph all of the time, and also that people should have their cars taken away if they break driving rules. I realise I am in the minority.

Well, I'm not sure about the 30mph, and the taking cars away idea causes all kinds of problems, but it's not really the coming-down-hardness that bothers me -- it's the fact that most people around here don't have three thousand dollars. And I'm not sure bankruptcy is the best way to alter behavior.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Public transportation in this country is horrible in most areas so taking cars away for less than major infractions means people losing their jobs--which probably isn't a good idea.

I'm a notorious speeder myself because I've often got extremely long distances to travel on a regular basis. But I'm not unsafe about it (meaning I rarely get over 75 mph on a two lane highway). But I tend to run 60 mph in a 55 zone as a rule. In town or city streets, I obey posted limits but I don't want to spend six hours driving to my sister's in what usually takes me four.

Then they shouldn't be driving recklessly. I have been known to be unreasonable on this subject, it's true. I just don't get why people break speed limits. They're not arbitrary. They're to stop people being killed. It's like everyone has blinkers about driving being dangerous. I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

The vending machine is *still* out of Coke Zero. Cruel universe.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I never knew that "stop hey, what's that sound" song was called "For What It's Worth", but that muppet sketch with the woodland animals getting shot did really stick with me.

Also, I rather stupidly, against my better judgment, went to the afterparty for the opening night of the play I worked on, and I am now at work. I had three glasses of wine over the course of 4 hours, which is not really a lot for me, but I haven't really slept right or eaten correct for a week and a half because I was making costumes, and I am kinda hung over. My tummy hurts and I don't want to be at work!

My face is percolating. Very strange sensation.

Oh & they came around taking pictures, so now my official picture is my bleary-eyed, rednosed self. Nice!

Punishingly Intricate

It's true!!!

Also, lots of people think they are are a good driver and should somehow be exempt from the rules but that's bullshit. Going too fast means you don't have time to react if something unexpected happens. Passing on the right is just rude!

Years of driving 40 miles a day on 95 means I have strong opinions about the rules o' the road.
