there is a street fair outside my offices today, so I am going to go get crepes and a funnel cake for lunch.
A coworker just headed off to get a crepe, too! I was thinking about some fried situation after work, but we'll see.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Okay. HELP needed desperately.
When I lived in Belgium (spring of 1993, I believe), there was a great op-ed piece in the International Herald Tribune written by Sandra Cisneros regarding the war in Sarajevo (where she had lived). It mentioned her friend Jasna.
I cannot find my copy of this and I desperately need it.
Anyone able to hook a sister up?
OH! it was from a speech at the International Woman's Day Rally
Kat, I see a 1993 article that is a letter from Jasna K to Cisneros in a couple of papers. But the online database I have for the IHT specifically begins in 1997.
Quick math-type question. Faux-son is here doing algebra II stuff. He just asked if there is a way to calculate the sum of the first 50 multiples of 6 without...you know, calculating them by hand. He has a schmancy calculator that probably has this function, but I know not how to guide him.
Is there a formula?

There is one that selectively goes back to 1991 for the IHT, but it's not there.
Darn, I forgot about the street fair.
Is there a formula?
There is. He's calculating 6*1+6*2+...6*50, which is the same as 6*(1+2+3+...50). He probably has learned or been exposed to the formula for teh summary of sequential integers, I think it is (n*n+1)/2 and in this case n=50.
Damn! I can't find it and it is making me crazy. I tried the IHT archives. And I know from an interview with Cisneros that it ran in the NYT but their archives are giving me no love either. I can use Thompson Gale stuff at school, but cannot find it.
Which is sad because it's this utterly beautiful piece that I need for Wednesday. It would be around March 1993.
But thank you, sparky and Lee, for trying!
I can try the NYT too.
