Man, I am inundated by Buffista baby cuteness! Although I object to the fact that Dylan AND Matilda are so freaking BIG! I mean, come on -- weren't they JUST newborns?!?
On top of the fabulous meal, we began the evening with amazing drinks (I had cucumber gimlets.) in the Library at Bourbon and Branch aka Buffista bar heaven. The bar is unmarked. You buzz at the door and give the password “books” (i.e., I don’t have a dinner reservation but please let me go back into the bar). Someone then leads you through the restaurant to a swival bookcase/door and into a dark book-lined room.
I weep to think of all the times I've been to San Francisco in the past 6 years and yet I've never been to this place. WEEP.

I'm trying to decide if this would increase their business enough to make it worthwhile.
I doubt it. We tend to have ATM's EVERYWHERE and I can't think of many instances when a person would want to take a cab but opt for walking or the subway rather than walk a few feet to one.

Eh, I don't know about that. The distance/location of ATMs has a lot to do with which ATM is right there, and what I'm charged to use it. Also, a lot of times when I take a cab to work, it's five or ten minutes I'm going to save. If I have to walk around the block to get to an ATM I want to use first, I might as well take the bus.
Or, to look at it another way, going to an ATM to get out cash could make a lot of the frivolous/lazy cab rides a lot less likely. How big a percentage those are of the total, I couldn't say.
And frankly, anymore, I tend to regard anything that I can't just use a card for as an annoyance or frustration point. I suspect I'm not alone in this, and getting less so every day.

The other thing is, if you're on a business trip, it's easier to get a charge put on a card than having to lay out cash and be reimbursed at some later date.
Not that I get to travel on business any more, but I'm familiar with the concept.
Just found out that my brother had another heart attack (mild) on Friday -- he didn't bother telling us until today, after hospitalization and a stent put in. I don't know whether to be appreciative that he didn't put Mom through some anxious hours or just pissed that he didn't tell us....

I think this is a lot of it.
Of course, you could let the market decide. Some cabs already had the cc machines, I don't know if anyone has studied if they had increased ridership.
Getting the equipment right would go a long way. I feel for the drivers being the guinea pigs while that mess gets straightened out.
