Humph. Well, I asked around about where one would go if one didn't have a doctor, and I called my insurance company, and eventually I went to the emergency room (closest thing to "urgent but not emergency care" there is around here).

I'm probably getting a cold, with new-to-me symptoms maybe exacerbated by my lack of sleep. Which makes me wonder whether my insurance will pay for that visit. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to be healthy, and the people at the ER were nice like you wouldn't believe, but what a waste of time and possibly money!

It was bizarre, though -- I've mentioned that this is a pretty small town, right? I walked through the door, talked to the woman at the desk, walked behind the desk, sat down, got my vitals taken, went into an exam room. Boom. Had time for maybe three lines of Sudoku before the doctor got there. When I think about the time I watched an entire World Series game in the ER waiting room... (mind you, otherwise I wouldn't have seen the Red Sox win. So that was a plus). Come to small-town Virginia for all your ER needs!

Sorry, that was very chatty. Despite a temp on my chart of 96.6, I'm feeling pretty warm. Probably need to go to bed. No Ambien, though. Just as well, I get the feeling I'm not very coherent anyway. Ack! Stop typing, dammit! Graafdhalkfhlaskh

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Emily, when I first got The Damned Vertigo, I went to the ER (not realizing there was a walk-in clinic next door), and the guy there referred me to an ENT (I had never been referred to a specialist!) and from there to a hearing test and this and that, and the upshot was... probably a virus causing wonkiness in my inner ear, nothing really to be done. Unless I wanted to try benadryl or motion sickness stuff, which I did, neither of which did anything. So now I have The Damned Vertigo whenever I fly anywhere of any distance. Bleh.

Splendid! Stupid worrisome and yet disappointingly medically uninteresting illnesses which have no resolution! We curse thee.

Exactly! I guess it was better than a brain tumor. OK, it's definitely better than a brain tumor.

Dramamine! That's what I was trying to think of before.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Dramamine!

Oh gawd did I hate that stuff as a child. For many years, just seeing that color yellow (of the liquid stuff) was almost enough to make me retch....

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You're not even medically interesting? That's some kind of bullshit.

Hey, who's the guest star in the Ghost Whisperer ad? She's someone.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Inner ear is what I thought when Emily listed her symptoms. t don't even know a doctor, let alone am one

Am tipsy. Ok, drunk. C and I went out and had a couple of pitchers, and then when we were about to leave this Mexican guy bought us another. ("I've never talked to white girls before!" Ok, dude, your accent is way too light for that to be remotely true. But free beer, okay!)

My insurance from my last job would pay for ER, but not for Urgent Care. Stupid. I'm assuming my current is better but I haven't actually checked it out.

You know when someone draws out the word "interesting" but you can tell they're hoping you'll have left by the time they're done? That's the sort of interesting I am.

I think I lost one of tonight's pills. I'm pretty sure I didn't take the anti-Alzheimers one, which'd be funny, except not.

My god I can't wait to be on vacation. I need it. I don't want to leave folks here, but I need it.
