In my high school (which was big--around 3,000 students), people got points for participating in school-related activities. The Pep Squad petitioned the student government for extra points, because keeping up school spirit was such a big job that they worked extra hours. In the next student gov. meeting, a bunch of my friends petitioned that if the Pep Squad got extra points, THEIR new club, the "Tornado Watchers," should get even more extra points, as they watched for tornadoes 24 hours a day. The pep squad got angry, there was crying and yelling and flouncing out. All in all, a great day for all of us who had no school spirit.
I have free chocolate ice cream. Nom nom nom.

Why is School Spirit and Pep considered so important for schools anyway?
