paperdol, my MiL did a tactile scary story thing with bowls of things--blindfolding the kids and letting them stick their hands in bowls of grapes while telling them about the jars of eyeballs in a scary laboratory and using cold, cooked spaghetti for brains, etc. Depending on the age of the kids, it was a BIG hit.
