Well, well - it was - um, less than 90 degrees today!
And as it was one of my walking home days, this was a very welcome thing indeed. Plus, walking home meant getting to meet the very adorable shark puppy of one of my students.
On the down side, there is the drought, and I find myself distractingly aware of the dryness in the air (like almost-but-not-quite-itchy clothing, that you're way too aware of feeling without it
quite
rising to the level of "gotta take this off right the fuck now"), and pining for a good hurricane.
(No, really. I don't wish the destruction on anyone, but they're actually an important part of the normal climate cycle for the region, and we haven't had one come inland in several years in a row. So the reservoirs and groundwater were already shot to hell before the whole less-than-a-quarter-of-the-normal-rainfall summer thing.)
I figured out how to fix my problem! I can't actually do it, of course, but I now get what to do -- there was a step in the setup that the cable company didn't tell me to do, and now I can't get into the "Setup Wizard," but I'll give it another try of unplugging everything. Maybe tomorrow.
Sorry for using this thread as tech support. Or tech moral support.
Nobody gets offices here.
We are moving to a new building and an "open seating plan" next month. I am not happy, especially since I have an office where I am now. I plan on working from home a lot.

Dr Who fans will flock to his church
A CARDIFF priest loves Dr Who so much he is preaching to his congregation through the Time Lord.
St Paul’s Church, in Grangetown, Cardiff, was used as a location for an episode of the first series of Doctor Who starring the ninth Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston.
And parish priest, Father Ben Andrews, 32, says he loves the cult TV show so much he thought a themed evening would go down well with the youngsters.
He said: “I love the series and it has such a great following that we couldn’t resist doing something for young people on a Dr Who theme.
“We will be looking at the idea of Jesus as a Lord of time and showing who Jesus was and the different images of him throughout time.
eta: EXTERMIKNIT!

I'm pretty sure that's terrifying, and also Not Right.
I didn't know you were so into gaming, Dana (or at least your DH is!)
I'm probably going to end up with an HP Pavilion Media Center refurbished -- that way at least I'll be able to use it as a TV/DVR, too.
and pining for a good hurricane.
I was on a conference call with some international partners and they were talking about how great their weather was. Our side was all " we're hoping for a hurricane." They were a little startled and asked us to repeat that, thinking they'd misunderstood.
It's not as bad as some droughts I've seen here, but the trees are beginning to brown up more than they should.
Jeopardy is in HD right now, on 707.
Even though I was watching on regular tv, it was a really good game. (Yes, I definitely don't need AT in HD.) And I knew the Wright brothers!
