Inara: So, explain to me again why Zoe wasn't in the dress? Mal: Tactics, woman. Needed her in the back. 'Sides, those soft cotton dresses feel kinda nice. It's the whole... air-flow.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Kat, vibing you so very hard re childcare. flea is right; if it isn't actually the most stressful part of early parenting, it's definitely the most stressful part that ought to be routine and low-stress.

I'm sure you already have it, but, just in case: UCLA's childcare help page. I used the UCSF childcare helpline after getting totally screwed out of a chunk of maternity leave and needing to find a place for Matilda well ahead of schedule; they were incredibly helpful, with a long and comprehensive list of caregivers with spaces for infants. Be sure to ask the social workers at Grace's hospital, too, as they probably have info (or at least inside lines to the people who do have info) on places that handle high-need infants.

Mostly, I'm just vibing for a solution you can live with, and fast, so it's not hanging over you one second longer than it has to.

And I'd totally join DJ in a rant, but I'm already eyeball-high in work. But I'm positive DJ can ably rant for both of us!

yes, this. The only advice I have is to tell EVERYONE you know because you never know who will have some connection or something that could lead to a solution for you.

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

I'm having horrible mood swings. One minute I'm fine, and the next I want to curl up and die. I think you can guess that right now I'm in the curling up and dying phase.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Jessica, I knew there was a reason I suddenly craved a cheeseburger for lunch.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I am not in the least hungry, because a migraine is kicking my ass, but I do kinda want a cheeseburger. I'm resolving that conflict by hating you all. It seems to be working out.

shrift, stick with the curling up. Don't follow through.

Anyone made this week's CI test recipe? I made the cake yesterday and will be making the frosting today. I'm very curious, and I totally need to read recipes better. I hate when you get to the bit about "reserved" ingredients too late. But I was okay.

It's ok. I'll just go back and find one of our old rants about treatment of families in this country and cut and paste! InstaOutrage!

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I got the cake recipe, but I don't really want to use SIX eggs on one cake!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Not me, haven't had time.

Two cakes! I love my Cake Bible that has an index of whites-only cakes. I hope there is one with three. The krav place will get nicely caked up from all this.

It's weird--I can make desserts. I mean, they're not quite not stressful, but since I don't have to make them, at least they're something I can accomplish every now and again without worrying anyone's going to get let down.

I need every accomplishment I can get.
