I was all on board with the idea of Elementary, but Lucy Liu seemed so vacant in the trailer. But that review/interview made me hopeful that it was a deliberate acting choice that I'd have to pay closer attention to. My very first DVR, we'll see if it works, and if I like, because goldurnit, 10pm shows are too late for me.
Procedurals 1: Anything You Say Can and Will Be Used Against You.
This thread is for procedural TV, shows where the primary idea is to figure out the case. [NAFDA]
I watched that "nuclear sub goes rogue" show tonight, that I already can't remember the name of. Holy crap is that a hot mess. It was kind of hysterical just trying to follow it. I'll be back to see if they can keep it up.
Andre ends up in some of the worst.(He's the best part, of course...he's Andre Braugher Although I loved "Men of A Certain Age"
I liked Elementary more than I expected to (which wasn't a whole lot, actually). I have never been a fan of Lucy Liu, and I actually didn't dislike her. And I loved the beehives on the roof, because I read some of Laurie King's books about Sherlock Holmes and Mary Russell this summer.
I'll probably watch it again, but it's kind of like methadone for the BBC Sherlock.
Also, loved the Elvis at the end.
Elementary premiers tonight.
So. They got seriously off on the wrong foot with that opening. Once we got past the woman being assaulted, things picked up, and I'm totally saying I called the jogging.
All-in-all, I though there was a good balance between the two leads, but there seriously need to be more female supporting characters. The mystery was good, with an unusually sympathetic use of a serial killer, and I didn't find myself cringing once. So I think it can stay for now.
I'm afraid Elementary just made me cringe and long for Goren and Eames. Also, rice allergies are extremely rare in Americans. It develops after years of eating a rice-based diet. Normally, rice is used for elimination diets when looking for food allergies, because allergy to rice is so rare.
Also, I doubt if the phone would be admissible in court.
I thought Last Resort had more potential than I expected, but I can't see the premise lasting beyond a season.
Last Resort was okay, but I felt the final few minutes kind of ruined the pilot for me. Beau absolutely HATED the show.
I might drop back in because of Braugher, but I don't know.
Elementary dragged in places, but I'm figuring that's New Show Info Dump. I liked the police captain, he doesn't have the adversarial relationship with Holmes, and the detective had an open mind.
I'll give it another shot.
but I can't see the premise lasting beyond a season.
I'm not sure the premise lasted an episode. We had to keep rewinding to say "wait, what just happened?" Could not make sense of who was trying to do what (or how they were doing it all so fast). Seriously, they parked their boat, made some phone calls, killed a guy for making a phone call, took over a NATO station, ran back to the boat, made a speech, nuked DC, and WHAT? And all in what appeared to be about 20 minutes? I can't even figure out what they're after - any of them. Braugher and co., the SEALs, the whoever [else] is shooting off missles.
Best fun I've had all week.
Elementary - I did enjoy it. Part of it is shallow. I think that as a Lucy Liu has moved into her forties she has developed a much more interesting face.
