She's done that more than twice. There was a guy with the Russian mob, an illegitimate son of a mob leader, who had run through a string of young prostitutes and then beat them to death when he was done with them. The FBI was protecting him because he was a key witness to some other case, so Brenda Lee couldn't get him on any of the murders. She arranged things so that he was released in the custody of the mob lawyer, so that the mob would know (by way of the lawyer) that he was cooperating with the Feds, also knowing that he would be killed as soon as he got out of the building.
There was another case where a pedophile had killed a young girl (Ruby?)... didn't they put him in general population, where he had been beaten so severely that he was terrified into committing suicide.
She has a tendency to be brutally expedient when it suits her.
Oh, I forgot about the Russian. At this point she's basically a serial killer.
OK, yeah, so maybe I won't like The Closer. It's not good when I'm rooting for the "hero" to get arrested. (I just cannot get into Dexter. I don't care how much they "deserve" it, you don't get to murder whomever you feel like.)
Connie,
I'm not rooting for her to be arrested, but I do think she needs to retire (or whatever the police equivalent is).
There is an endpoint for Sedgewick in this show, because this is her last season
They are going to spin off the series, and there are several other characters to like on the show.
I like it because the interplay of the secondary characters is really interesting and the camera work is awesome and provides a LOT of visual humor. Not a show to watch while typing.
Well enjoying the series is not the same as cheering for the character. But I admit Until I heard about the other murderers I did kind of like her. For some reason I found her neurosis endearing. But I don't think she is clueless in sense of not knowing what she did was illegal if she got caught. She is clueless in the sense of not seeing anything wrong with killing the bad guys, and indignant that the law would be enforced against her as long as her target was a murderer who would otherwise get away with it. And surprised that there was a chance of her being caught. That scene with the adulterer episode before last looked to me like it was actually dawning on her that murder was wrong even when she did it. But the next episode did not seem to follow up on that. Also I note that hubby does not see anything wrong with her murdering bad guys as long as she is not caught, provided the methodlogy is setup and withdraw protection.
Regarding The Closer. There was also the teenage boy who she couldn't get in the US so she had him arrested in Mexico because the victim was from there and you definitely got the impression he was going to be severly hurt or worse.
In the case of the drug dealer, I think that she felt justified because Pope forced her to offer immunity and the murderer got away scot free because of it. There was no way to punish him legally.
At least she felt guilty about the obnoxious rich teenage rapist/murderer she left in Mexico.
From the discussion, I think all the cases were people she could not punish legally. But police are not so supposed to act as vigilantes. They are supposed to leave that to Batman.
Yes, it was generally cases where the system failed, or the perp worked the system. She'd gotten a confession, so she knew that they were guilty, and she was creating a situation where they would get punished, even if it wasn't at her hand.
