I liked that they didn't bother to chase him. And they did the "Hey, maybe he's doing it for the publicity!" plot thing.

I thought it great that the one really sincere moment in the whole episode immediately preceded that, when Castle asked Beckett to take care of Alexis if anything ever happened to him.
