I don't get why she is so awkward still after all these years of training and successfully living elsewhere.
I think that she's supposed to be the observer, but doesn't know how to interact with people.
As far as I can follow, she has no clue as to basic human interaction because of the trama of her parents' disappearance when she was 15.
And then left again by her big brother who couldn't handle the responsibility of taking care of her.
it is just so ridic inconsistent. She'll make some observation "in XX society it would be taken as a threat to do ZZZ" then next scene when asked about something or seeing a colleague do something common to US culture or law enforcement culture she'll be all "why would I do that?" or "why are you doing that?" bumble bumble bumble.
Like to still be unaware when someone is lying for effect or to fool a witness/suspect?!!? how many times have we seen her stumble on this and almost give away things. it's old - it's not the way she is with anything else - it is lazy.
And I still don't get how she writes bestsellers when she not only doesn't seem to get people, but she doesn't seem to want to, like her way is clearly superior. What are her characters like, if she can't grok anything about the motivation or expressions of the people around her?
hnadwave handwave
it's because she is very pretty.
Now, mind you - I like the show and TiVO it.
I think what also really bothers me is that her character in the fiction novels is NOTHING like her character on the show. So I have a hard time reconciling the two.
I can't lie. I'm in it for the Hodgins.
I'm enjoying the lab assistant of the week thing. The scruffy guy who got it on with the scary woman from the fantasy auction is a great deal of fun, as was Hodgins saying "He's kind of my hero."
Baseball tonight. Looks like I don't have to worry about getting home in time for Bones.
And is NCIS pre-empted next week? They didn't show previews.
I agree with all the characterization issues you guys raised about Brennan (in fact, in another time I've raised similar points myself and was shouted down with "oh no, I know highly cerebral people my ownself and they're just like that" so I just rolled my eyes quietly to myself.) Yet I still enjoy the show, despite the uneveness.
Something I'd like to see explained a little more is the relationship between Angela and Brennan. They've both referred to one another as their best friend but I have a difficult time picturing how that would come to be and then be sustained over a long period of time. Because it seems so one-sided on Angela's part.
