I mean, without that shorthand, what else would one get out of seeing Jane plucking an orange off the tree mean?
I've never seen Life. I assumed it was them saying hey! it's California, or it was just Jane wandering around doing one of those offbeat, lost in his own world things he does so often.
Morgana, with familiarity with
Life,
that scene was a callback to Lisbon yelling at Jane when he was all "I'd prefer to die if it meant the downfall of Red John" and she was all "You're wrong, you choose life, you have people who care about you." The picking of the orange brings to mind Charlie's orange grove, and thus the scene is Jane choosing l/Life. Which fits with Jane shooting (literally) his chance at finding Red John in order to save a friend. Friends/life trumped revenge.
I'll be very sad if budget constraints cause
Joe to be an intermittent character
on Medium. The maturity and 'reality' of the Dubois marriage is one of the very best things about that show.
Much as I lust for Scanlon, I'd rather lose him than Joe
.
eta: in case folks haven't seen it yet.
Did you notice that the teacup that you could see with the monitors was the same china pattern as the blind woman's?

Yes. And steaming.
It was an all very creepy episode. I thought that Simon Baker did a very good job. I liked Alicia Witt's work too.

I almost didn't recognize her. there was something different about her. Even when I knew it was her, I kept not quite seeing it.
I want to say she looked older than in L&O:CI, but that's not precisely it. Haunted.
Mentalist was all kinds of creepy last night.
Oddly enough, the sherriff pinged me right at the beginning of the episode, but once the big reveal happened, it was like he was chewing scenery. Way too much with the crazy.
About 10 minutes before the sheriff reveal, I said to myself: I wonder why they didn't think that Red John or someone close to him was in law enforcement. The way he has covered up his crimes and knows the actions of investigators makes me think that that he knows quite a bit about law enforcement.
I watch WAY too much crime.
Alicia Witt did a much better job on this show than L&O:CI. Her character was written wrong on that show.
I was really hoping that
finally
there would be violence against Jane, and walked away disappointed yet again.
Buttstock to the head! Tie him up!
Gooooore!!!!!
And when there was violence, with Lisbon, I couldn't see anything!
