I haven't seen the Beeb's LoM, but I quite like the US version, so far. I missed the first 9 minutes, so there's some backstory missing, but I think I've got a good idea of how he got where he is. I'm having some of the same problems with this as I do with Mad Men, they seem to be dwelling on the "bad" old days, sexism, bad cops, etc. Miranda warnings became mandatory in 1966, this is 1973. Of course, New York City has always been a law unto itself, so I suppose it could be quite true to life. I'll keep TiVoing, for now.

I've seen a couple random BBCA LoM, but not the early establishing episodes, and I really liked this. Among other things, seriously good use of the Twin Towers - possibly the best use of them for anything fictional since 9/11. But I like the actors a lot too.

So, I watched the other UK import tonight -- Eleventh Hour. I didn't think I'd like it, and I was right. It's dman near impossible to equal the gravitas of Patrick Stewart, and it doesn't help that the first episode was practically word for word of the British version (even down to saying that someone was "struck off the medical register". We wouldn't say that, we'd say "lost their license" or something)
I'll watch next week, maybe I'll appreciate it more if it's not a direct comparison to Patrick Stewart.

I think he could be facing a lot of trouble for some of the stuff he did, but big lawsuits and citizens' commissions(and videotape) have changed policing a lot. But I kind of see your point, SailAweigh. The diet Coke joke was old hat when it happened to Marty McFly in 1985. Does our cop wear Calvin Klein underwear?

I was half falling asleep-- the one thing that got really old in a hurry was Imperioli's exaggerated metaphors.
I have to admit, though, just as Keitel's character was really starting to annoy me with his bullish, fist-first demeanor, he killed me with how he dealt with grandma. He may not have much respect for psychology as a discipline, but he has an inherent instinct for what makes people tick.
