So I finally made it a priority to catch up on Brooklyn 99 (I watched the first season when it aired and then it kept falling to the bottom of the list), and I mainlined the entire series on Hulu (oh Hulu, how desperately you need a Skip Intro button) now there isn't any more and I miss it when is NBC bringing it back can it be tomorrow kthxbye.

Interview with Mike Schur on that S2 finale of The Good Place and the plan for S3: [link]
I like that he just comes right out and say yep, it's real, not simulation, instead of beating around the bush.

I won't lie; I actually gasped when I read that part, because I totally assumed it's a simulation.
Can we have season 3 RIGHT NOW PLEASE
Oh, thanks Vonnie! I can't wait.

You guys convinced me it had to be a simulation because of Chidi's accent, and I believed you! I FEEL SO BETRAYED.
This has taught me to always assume The Good Place is doing the bold thing I wouldn't think they are doing.

He never had an accent in his flashbacks. I think that Chidi's personality wouldn't allow him to speak a second language with an accent, especially if he was teaching in that language, because an accent might make it harder for students to understand what he was trying to get across. That would be unacceptable for Chidi.
Did anyone else watch A.P. Bio? It features another philosophy professor, but one who is the polar opposite of Chidi. Every philosophical principle Jack Griffin talks about on APB is used to justify self-serving behavior. It was kind of jarring to see that in the same approximate time slot as The Good Place. (That said, I really like APB, although a lot of that may be because there are times I'd really like to tell my class that "you can begin to shut up now.")

According to Shur, they have an in-universe explanation for the accent issues.
BTW, y'all need to subscribe to The Good Place Podcast, which is hosted by Mark Evan Jackson and so far has had Mike Shur and 2 of the writers and the casting director as guests. It's quite fun! (Although there's something wrong with the sound levels, I think.)
