Comedy 1: A Little Song, a Little Dance, a Little Seltzer Down Your Pants

I just saw "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" on Community and, WOW, you were not kidding about Pierce being over-the-line vile in this episode. I gotta give Chevy Chase props for being willing to be so unrelentingly unlikeable. He's managed to blow past Rygel and Eric Cartman for most hateful character on a show I watch (or watched in the case of South Park - it's been a while since I did so with any regularity).
I think Chevy's just working with what he knows, Frank. But I usually don't find him funny at all, and my brother is a fanboy so boredom turned quickly to hatred.
Just wait. It gets worse.
What's sad (for me) is that I used to love Chevy Chase. Caddyshack is a perfect example. Even Fletch, and definitely Foul Play. But he really is loathsome on Community.
Fletch is freaking hilarious. But, yeah -- on Community, it beggars belief that the study group would keep Pierce around.
Thank goodness people mentioned dvrs not recording 30 Rock! WTH is that?
Well, there it is. Everybody seems to be equating Chevy with Pierce, and I'm not sure that's fair. I know Chevy has been hit with serious asshole descriptions over the years, but I don't think it's fair to equate that with what he's doing as Pierce. Certainly, the outtake bits I've seen don't make him look that hateful wrt the rest of the cast.
I don't listen to the commentaries with Chase on them. I find him irritating, unfunny, and unrewarding enough that he spoils everyone else. I enjoy Pierce more than the man himself.
I've never seen anything in an outtake or general press that made him seem even vaguely entertaining either. The others are pretty consistently hilarious to me, though.
