Maybe she expands upon the boxed ingredients
Then they should say. But they didn't. So I'm just going on information as disclosed--she's making box mix cupcakes.
Is it usually pretty funny?
No. I like how blunt it is about some stuff, but it cheerfully falls prey to all sorts of ethnic stereotyping and has long stretches where I can't even work out where the laughs are supposed to be.
However, I find her painfully attractive.
Is it usually pretty funny?
It has some really good moments, but it is inconsistent. Also, like ita ! said, they really need to get rid of all of the ethnic stereotyping.
Maybe she expands upon the boxed ingredients
They said right out that her secret ingredient is a different kind of mix. Just a really poorly done idea, and one that unfortunately undercuts a main storyline in pursuit of a throwaway joke.
I thought she said she only used the mixes when she was pressed for time. i could be misremembering though.
I like it, Amy. i think Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs have great chemistry and the guy who plays Oleg has some funny one-liners.
The episode was called "And The Secret Ingredient" so it was really weird. As a recapper aptly put it:
Not only does this undermine the whole premise of Max and Caroline’s potential bakery, but it also undermines the whole premise of this show. Why are they saving up their money to start a bakery when Max actually does not even know how to bake?
She did say that, tiggy, but later (different recapper--this one liked the ep!):
At the register, Caroline counts 39 boxes of Duncan Hines cake mix and needs 1 more to get $23 back with her coupons. 1 box turns out to be Pillsbury, which Max reveals is the secret ingredient in her cupcakes. Max then admits that she doesn’t know how to bake from scratch
oh...that's right. that is a stupid move on the writer's part.
wrod. but real bakers hate mixes.
I'm not a real baker, and I hate mixes. I have considered gluten free mixes for the same reason as Gris, but that's it. I don't even use mix for cornbread.
I'm a real cupcake purchaser, and if it's gotta be a mix, make it a mix I can't buy for myself, eh?
Cornbread mix is good for adding shit into to make really good. If that were the plot I'd be all over it. Ditto angel food cake - the mix is really going to exceed homemade, assuming you haven't spent six months in France or something. Regular cake - it's just not hte same thing.
Also, like ita ! said, they really need to get rid of all of the ethnic stereotyping.
I think that's part of Whitney Cummings's regular schtick, though. And she's the creator, I believe.
