It must have been universal insomnia night.

I'm having car worries, of the sort where I wonder if the clutch linkage is going to snap every time I shift. Exciting thing during rush hour. We've got a line on some new parts for my old car, but I've still got to get back and forth to work in a town that thinks bus service is for the under class.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

If the dark spot really bothers you

Not at all, actually. Any stains around the perimeter of the room will inevitably be under furniture. We'll also have to have some throw rugs. So it's mostly those weird light-colored stains that trouble me. They're right in the middle of both rooms.

I suspect you'll need the clean-and-strip stuff.

The Bruce stuff? (Hello, Bruce! Hello, Bruce!) (....shit. I'll end up singing the goddamn Bruces' Philosophers' Song while I'm cleaning.)

Thrive to spite them

Steph, I was watching an episode of Flip that House (with a smart flipper) and the woman had hardwood floors in the house, but there were some bad stains that they couldn't get out. She bought pieces of wood that matched the existing floor fairly closely and had it put in at one spot, then stained the floor a darker color. After it was finished you couldn't see where the flooring had been replaced.

Several companies make something similar, Teppy. The best place to see a range of products is a big hardware store.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Like your bathroom choices, GC! I'm so sorry gf's dad is back in the hospital.

I'm watching your carpet removal tales with interest, Tep, and taking notes. I'm going to take up the carpet in my new living room, but not until after I paint the walls. I know there's hardwood floor under there, but I don't know the condition...

Cool -- thanks!

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

For general cleaning afterwards, Steph, Murphy's Oil Soap is fabulous, and smells so good.

Warning - work rant ahead

Our program manager is calling a team meeting on Wednesday. Right in the rush of our monthly process. Apparently the topic has to do with our client calling us on the carpet for a bunch of mistakes we have made over the last few months. Nothing major, just typo's and extra pages included in a report and such. Apparently their first question was "has there been a change in personnel".

Ummm - let's see - in the last few months... On the admin side of the team, the lead admin when on Maternity leave. Her assistant (who never fully learned all the pieces needed to cover even though she had the opportunity), fell and busted her shoulder a week after the lead went on leave. She worked with 1 arm for two months before going out on leave to have surgery to fix the break. A gal who has never done admin work on the program jumped in and has helped us keep things together.

On the accounting side, there has been me and L. I have fussed enough about L's struggles to keep up. I haven't been able to give her anything meaty, just a bunch of the clerical maintenance stuff. I've stretched myself thin, helping her, QC'ing her, covering the admins stuff where there were big gaps and never mind the outside of work stress and health stuff I've been dealing with.

Ummmm, so the point of this meeting is what? Lead admin is back from materinty leave. We are all still maxed out... We used to have 2.5 admins and 2 fulltime accounting folks. Now - we have 1 admin, plus a little help (her assistant is still out on disability) and 1.25 accounting folks. Mistakes will happen when you are shortstaffed. They should be lucky that the mistakes have been as minimal as they have been.

Sigh.

I hate making ANY mistakes, I do. But come on. Morale in the group is at an all time low. I'm the only one who has been here through all of this and I feel responsible even though I shouldn't.

Again, the point of the meeting will be what???

End work rant

At least, I'll try to end it for now.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Damn it.

Dammit dammit dammit.

DH got the job offer, but the dept. can't afford to even match his current salary--it'd be a 20% pay cut. There's a chance they can ask for more in December, so if the position is still vacant and he's still looking then they might re-offer. But damn it anyway. I thought that was going to be this week's Good Thing, him getting that offer and getting to give notice.

He's going to take a few days to think things over before deciding on next steps. What this makes me think is that he may need to consider the private sector a bit more, if it's going to be this hard for even a decently funded university dept. to match his salary. But I don't know, and I'm not going to nag until he's ready to talk about it.
