I'm the last person to be saying this, but your vet should be able to show you how to do sub-Q fluids. It's definitely a two-person job, and three is ideal.
It really depends on the cat. My cat, whom I thought would kick the shit out of me for trying something like this, lets me do it alone. It's not a problem. ~ma for your kitty.

Fred Pete, thank you for the input. I have already come to the conclusion that I need the peace of mind of getting the other test done. I hate needles, but I feel more at ease with the idea of learning how to do sub-Q fluids than I am with feeding my cat food so high in refined corn. Then again, it is possible that there are other brands that do an appropriate feline kidney care diet that would rest easier on my mind. I will have to look into it.

I have, however, answered the SYTYCD call and am planning to roadtrip down for the show. You are officially forewarned. (Any other DCistas wanna road trip in Oct?)
Apparently I was premature in dad's nerve conduction improving. Dammit! And my mom's all like I don't want to unload on you guys and worry you... I told her that was just dumb. Of course I also had to tell her good luck getting a hold of me this weekend thanks to work and continuing education classes. Sigh.
