School is cancelled because one of the Big Old Trees (which get their own little miniature temples full of goodies, and incense, and silk scarves, and miniature elephants and dancing girls and garlands of flowers) fell down (presumably in last night's Very Big Rain) and knocked out all the electricity!!!

...I mean, I really do enjoy the hell out of my job, but - TREE DAY!!!
And you know what's ESPECIALLY good about Tree Day? The daughter of a friend of mine is coming to crash at my place on quite short notice - and that's cool, and she's totally welcome, but because I only found out on Monday that she was arriving at 1pm, that's a trifle awkward, what with me (supposed to be) teaching until 4pm. So we made a convoluted plan for her to go find the meter taxis and tell them the name of a street round the corner from my work, where she can at least sit in a pub for a few hours, or go exploring the shops, rather than spending like four hours in an airport.
But now I can make a big placard and meet her off the plane!!
And if I fail to meet her off the plane? It's still okay! Because I can head to the pub and find her there pretty much as soon as she gets there!
