Spike's Bitches 37: You take the killing for granted.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Brief report:
Recruiter somewhat misrepresented Gargantocorp; the atmosphere is fairly casual (definitely no wardrobe upgrade required) and the office denizens are very very normal and low-key and not Perky!!! or Fun!!! (which is not to say they're not fun; they just don't take it to Crazyland). Salary may be more than what the recruiter initially said. Full benefits, plus free soda and coffee and ice cream. I'm scheduled for a second interview next Wednesday. Hmmmm.
OTOH, it's entirely possible that the heavily coded monologue the woman I interviewed with delivered regarding the man I'd be working for translates into plain English as "A bit entitled and sometimes kind of a dick. Also, probably the kind of conservative who likes to call Berkeley Berzerkeley and may express opinions on San Francisco highly irritating to people who actually live there. Please come here and be nicer than him."
My executive assistant decoder book says, "Dicks have trouble keeping assistants who'll put up with their shit. Ask for more money."
Still and all, the job right in San Francisco (just a stone's throw from the outer edge of North Beach, no less) with the nice boss, even for less money, is a wee bit more appealing.
eta: yay, askye! Wonderful news! It's about damn time. The universe still owes Buffista families, big time.
Also boo sucks on work people making DJ and Susan cry. That's all kinds of wrong.
Oh! and I stopped by to get my comics and R wasn't there, but there was this chick who I totally geeked out with. She said she read fic, but not a lot, it was hard to find quality on ff.net but she wasn't sure where else to look so I gave the name of some rec sites and anyway it was cool to geek out about stuff.
JZ the job options sound nice, not conservative boss, but you know, it's Crazy Peppy Upper Land.

Yes, this.
askye, that's so awesome! Yay for PNH!
JZ, that sounds like it has potential. Would you meet Potentially Evil Boss before having to decide about an offer?
As we were leaving today, my boss told me that she absolutely forbade me to spend a single second worrying about the issue in question over the weekend, zero time worrying allowed. And also that they all think I'm doing a wonderful job and are glad to have me. All of which made me feel better.
Ooh, JZ, fingers crossed!
And yay for grandma and the assisted living!
As for meara plans, juliana and i were discussing in email--basically, I have to be at the airport by about 11:30. (I have just arrived in San Mateo, btw, and am ensconced with free wifi at the hotel). So, brunch would be fairly early. And I'm not sure how I'll get to wherever. But. Yes.
That's great, askye!
I'm glad it wasn't happy perky land, JZ. May you get the job that will make you happiest.
Sadly, I just returned from happy perky land, in the form of the volunteer orientation for the Decatur Book Festival, where we were told to remember three F words: flexible, friendly and fun. Also, annoying F word person, there was no need to spend half an hour talking about the wonders of seeing authors in person, except to waste our time with famous people you have hung out with. When we were asked who went to last years' festival, we all raised our hands, and all but about three people had volunteered last year. I have a "bored, now" headache, and I am contemplating another F word.
sorry for the bad days - but yay for good bosses. and standing up for yourself.
keeping all the job ma~~ going but sending some to my friend T - a man in his fifties that just got reorged out.
I worked and worked and worked today. I got tons done, but it was a grind because last night ,for the second night in a row, it was wake up and solve all the problems of the world at 3am.
and yay for a plan for grandma
I remember when JMV was hot.
...at least I think I do. Was he ever, really?
I remember him being hot. I was obviously wrong. He’s short and had bad skin. I liked the character though.
I shall seek solace in...shit...I can't believe I forgot the name of the guy who shot himself with the gun loaded with blanks.
Oh, I loved Jon Erik Hexum. and
Cover Up
He was Phinneas Bogg on Voyagers! I loved that show. Very fun.
