Natter 53: We could just avoid making tortured puns

Oh, boy, I just discovered a new way to spend money.
Today I have contractors blowing insulation into my walls, and I had a notary come by so I could sign papers for a HELOC, and I just had a painter come by to give me a bid. And he pointed out something on the roof of the garage that wasn't just damage, but was fungus and rot and now I need a roofer to come fix my garage roof.
And yet! My appraisal on my house for the HELOC said it's worth twice what I paid for it in 2000. So, still a good investment.
Just, argh. So much to do before the rain starts!
Damn. [link]
It is with deep regret that we must inform you of the passing of Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter, who died this morning at his home in London, UK.

They were doing this on This Old House last night! Well, sometime in the past, it was a rerun.
I love TOH.
I'm really hoping it will make my house lots cooler, and Soon! Plus, warmer in the winter!
Gosh, I'm glad I'm not as old as you guys.

See, I already knew that a famous Michael Jackson (but not the Michael Jackson) had died. But on reading this, I went to a Bob and Doug Mckenzie place....
We actually wanted to go with the 15 year, but then our banker pointed out that if we were worried about making the payments, we should go with the longer loan that doesn't have a prepayment penalty. We can pay it off as if it were a 15 year loan, but if we got into trouble along the way, we could always drop back to the 30 year payments.
We paid off our car loan (my only car, ever) well in advance so I know we have the discipline to pay ahead.
Liese, that's what my parents did with their current house. It's paid off now, which is still startling to me for no rational reason.
OMG, people, this day has been so crazy and it's just going to get crazier.
By keeping your car for 15 years, or 225,000 miles of driving
Cue hysterical laughter from me. I'm just hoping my car is still in running order when I finish paying off the 5-year loan, at which point it will most likely have 200,000+ miles on it.
