"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Why on earth did you look at her picspam?

Because shrift is the ID of fandom. It's like popping the hood on the whole scene.

Compassionately intolerant

I think giving extra-special attention when they're scared just reinforces, in their minds, that there's really something to be scared of.

Definitely this.

I tried just leaving my hand on him, moving his 'basket' (squishy bed) near me while I used the computer, climbing into my bed like we were going to take a nap and just ignoring the issue.

Nothing really worked.

During a break in the storm, we went for an around the block and he seems better now...but the thunder is starting up again.

I think just going to bed (him in his crate) is the best plan.

So much for that drought we were having.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

When I opened up the freezer just now, a pint of lemon sorbet jumped out and attacked my foot.

I really wish it hadn't done that.

Now you will have to punish it by eating it, Lee. It's the only way.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

One time I was staying at a friend's parents' house during a thunderstorm, and didn't realize I was sitting in the dog's seat on the sofa until he jumped up in my lap and tried to hide behind the pillows. Now, this was a German shorthair, so not a small dog. It was hilarious.

I think you are very right.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

That's really more execution than punishment. Unless you only eat half. Then what remains can warn the rest of the frozen goods of their fate if they attack.

Of course, it's futile; you're eventually going to eat them all anyway. Might as well go on and finish off the sorbet.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Flickr doesn't do video, so I've posted some pix from the KC airshow on Photobucket: [link]

It was a nice day, not too hot, with a little breeze. The Harriers really stole the show. This was the first time I've ever seen (or heard) one up close.
