Nearly bug free is nice. I'm always slightly amused when people realize that there really are flying roaches (er, Palmetto bugs) in the Florida and it's not an exgeration.
Although our bug issues are how I discovered the one good use for Readers Digest Condensed books --they are the perfect bug killing tools. A nice size and shape, light enough to throw, but still enough heft that they bugs squash satisfiyingly when enough force is applied. And the covers are easy to clean.

Very sandy soil which is conducive to fleas, it's true. But I don't have pets so it's not an issue.
Still, pretty much no roaches. Very limited mosquitos.
We do have butterflies and dragonflies, who are apparently kept very busy eating up tinier bugs and keeping them away from my house.
But I can leave a spoon covered with honey in the sink overnight and it's still untouched in the morning.
Man, I am going to get spaghetti sauce everywhere. At least I'm not wearing a white shirt.

I consider their existence to be proof of the universe's inherent malevolence. Those fuckers should not be able to fly. It's just mean.
Oh! I also had the tiny ants in SF. (But, yes, very few mosquitos was a dream!)

Emmett's mom had tiny ants, and we had a brief bout with them ten years ago. Also, I once had a yellowjackets build a nest in the frame of our building. Still an exterminator got rid of them and that's about the sum total of negative bugivity over 21 years here.

And they're not the frightend, scattering types either! Those mother fuckers will fly right at your face.
This is the most bug-free place I've lived ever. I've seen a couple roaches, but they are wee compared to even the MN ones. Fleas, yes. Ants, yes. But those are eradicable, and not nearly the bother of some other insects I could name.
