I've been out of the abbey two days, I've beaten a lawman senseless, I've fallen in with criminals. I watched the captain shoot the man I swore to protect. And I'm not even sure if I think he was wrong.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Maybe I'll make a pie tomorrow -- I have a frozen pie shell in the freezer (I know, I know), and I was thinking about chucking it, but maybe I'll cook it!

Sue congrats on your first pie. I love pies. I miss making them just cause. I have small and individual sized pie pans, but the time and space I need to make them and not feel harried is not my reality at the moment.

I just got some peaches today though and I may make a small cobbler with them. That just leads me to wanting to make some vanilla ice cream and well, one of the two may happen, but both is a pipe dream.

ION - I have people coming over for a playdate tomorrow and 1) the living room smells vaguely of cat pee. 2) despite being less cluttered than it has been in a month, there are still random piles of crap out (thrift store bag and craiglist electronics, I am looking at you.) I think the only way around it is to move them into my bedroom tomorrow morning. right?

hip deep in pie

If I could send you pie, I would, ita.

I was going to bring the rest of the pie to work tomorrow, but I don't think it has the structural integrity to make it even there intact, with the filling being so runny.

I miss my cherry tree. I made pies from the tree in my own front yard. But the tree became a cherry shrub, and the birds got the ripening fruit, and no more pies.

There are times when I think I should do more with the cherry and apple trees that are growing in our yard. Then I realize that I have no time, and I have very good friends who think the funnest thing in the world is to pick fruit, make jam or pies, and then bring some back to the person who's yard provided the fruit.

Oooh! I could make my pork with apples, but add a cherry marinade/glaze

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Tonight I made my very first pie ever!

Congratulations! Welcome to the cult.

It was blueberry and it tastes pretty good. The only thing is that the blueberries were pretty runny once they baked and the bottom crust is just a soggy blue mess.

I think that's a common problem with blueberry pies. Did you use a lot of cornstarch? (My problem, with apple pies, is an allegiance to juicy apples, which inevitably means the juices overflow the crust and go running everywhere.)

The friend in question is also the one who will turn up at my house, announce she's the Latke Fairy, and then take over my kitchen to make latkes. At the gothy yard sale this Sunday, she's planning on selling homemade treats and jars of jam and pickles.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I had no idea until this moment that what is lacking in my life is a latke fairy.
