Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Oooh, I hated move-in day when I worked at Penn. It's not as noticeable at UW, somehow, maybe because it's more of a commuter campus.

According to the article 27% of Americans did not read a book in the last year. That means 73% did, which is kinda better than I would expect. There are some interesting stats about who reads what in the article too.

It depresses me as an aspiring author, though it doesn't surprise me, that the median number of books read by the 73% is so low (9 for women, 5 for men). I know I'm an outlier, but I'd feel like something was wrong if I didn't read at least 100 books/year. This year I've already read 81.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Apparently the puppy boy is fine. The kennel owner just looked at his list of pickups and misread ours as the 27th, so he bailed. There is someone who stays there with the dogs, but he wasn't home yet. So no disasters; we're heading in to pick him up shortly. Also, cutely, apparently they must leave the radio on for the dogs.

Phew. Good to know Liese.

What station do they leave on for the dogs? Easy listening? Talk radio?

Not sure what Bboy would prefer. Probably All Things Considered given his fairly serious take on life.

Hee. I dunno, I didn't ask the SO. I think the last time I was in there it was classic rock.

Anyway, in general, they're great. They're a kennel we really trust, with owners who are serious dog lovers themselves (they breed and show and train). They're great and it's really possible to find a good kennel that the dog will like who will take great care of him.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Hello, you fail.

"Let's maintain our [healing] when we are trying to remedy the entire situation," White said. "Yes, there are many dog lovers, fans in the NFL but there are also many, many other people who just love Mike Vick and these people, too, are significant in numbers."

I've never left Bartleby alone, nor away from home. The one full night I was gone, I had a friend stay with him.

The options this time involve being far, far from home, which just terrifies me. Given his penchant for 'looking for me', I'm paralyzed by the notion that he'll run away and get lost. It's killing me.

White also said he believes the star quarterback has received more negative press than if he had killed a human being. "He would not have been persecuted that much if he had killed somebody."

What the...?

Oh, and the 'he fell in with a bad crowd' argument? Pretty much loses steam after high school. Ohfercryinoutloud.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Last night's TDS had Jon Stewart in boggle-eyed amazement over the sports guys on the tube talking in all seriousness about how bad it is that Vick won't be able to play until 2010, and how hard it'll be for a team to sign him--not that they wouldn't sign him, but he would be shunned in the locker room by the other players for at least a bit. "He [bleeping] killed dogs!! He hung them by the necks and strangled them!! And you're talking about how bad it is for the sport that he won't be playing for a few years? Are you [bleeping] KIDDING me?!?!?!"

Oh, and that the gambling would be "worse" than the dog fighting? @@

Just one of the myriad reasons I less than three Stewart.

Seriously, that's crazy talk. Just ask Ray Lewis. If you can catch him between games.

Ok, this is kind of funny, though, in a horrid way. Team standings based on arrest records - seven points for a felony, three for a misdemeanor. [link]
