Mal: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us? Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir.

I've never left Bartleby alone, nor away from home. The one full night I was gone, I had a friend stay with him.

The options this time involve being far, far from home, which just terrifies me. Given his penchant for 'looking for me', I'm paralyzed by the notion that he'll run away and get lost. It's killing me.

White also said he believes the star quarterback has received more negative press than if he had killed a human being. "He would not have been persecuted that much if he had killed somebody."

What the...?

Oh, and the 'he fell in with a bad crowd' argument? Pretty much loses steam after high school. Ohfercryinoutloud.

Last night's TDS had Jon Stewart in boggle-eyed amazement over the sports guys on the tube talking in all seriousness about how bad it is that Vick won't be able to play until 2010, and how hard it'll be for a team to sign him--not that they wouldn't sign him, but he would be shunned in the locker room by the other players for at least a bit. "He [bleeping] killed dogs!! He hung them by the necks and strangled them!! And you're talking about how bad it is for the sport that he won't be playing for a few years? Are you [bleeping] KIDDING me?!?!?!"

Oh, and that the gambling would be "worse" than the dog fighting? @@

Just one of the myriad reasons I less than three Stewart.

Seriously, that's crazy talk. Just ask Ray Lewis. If you can catch him between games.

Ok, this is kind of funny, though, in a horrid way. Team standings based on arrest records - seven points for a felony, three for a misdemeanor. [link]

Beej, is there a pet-sitting service in your town? If you can find one, I'd recommend it--most of them are very good, fully bonded, and really care about the animals.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

What station do they leave on for the dogs? Easy listening? Talk radio?

I have a friend who used to leave a radio on Top 40 music for her cat, until another friend convinced her to switch to NPR for the cat's eddification.

If I left anything on for entertaining my cat, I'd probably leave Animal Planet on the TV--occasionally, animals will interest her on the screen (she was fascinated by some bears last week, as well as Meerkat Manor, and birds will always catch her eye), but as soon as a person comes on, she looks away.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Is this part of the same "reading" study?

A new AP-Ipsos poll finds that liberals read more books than conservatives.

...

Pat Schroeder, president of the American Association of Publishers, attempted to explain the results: “The Karl Roves of the world have built a generation that just wants a couple slogans: ‘No, don’t raise my taxes, no new taxes. It’s pretty hard to write a book saying, ‘No new taxes, no new taxes, no new taxes’ on every page.”

Responding to the poll, White House spokesman Tony Fratto attacked liberals for being too “locquacious”:

Obfuscation usually requires a lot more words than if you simply focus on fundamental principles, so I’m not at all surprised by the loquaciousness of liberals.

I suppose it's not too loquacious to say "Fuck you."

My cats could care less. Unless it is 3 dimensional and battable, it holds no interest. Sometimes even then.... My parents had a cat who would attack jets on the war channel or whatever.

You know what's annoying? Not knowing what job you are doing or expected to do. Need to remedy that shortly. Also? Other stuff where I'm required to be clueful where I'm not.
