'War Stories'
Natter 53: We could just avoid making tortured puns
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I was already wanting to get a refund for today, since I'm in the ER again. With the pissy doctor. With what may be the worse migraine I've ever had. At least...nah, can't remember any upside.
Hell, my boss wanted to talk to me today, but there's no way I can go back into work today. And I left without telling anyone.
However, no puke or lost-important stuff on my list. Total win in the lose sense of the world.
Kid! Shut up! People in pain around here.
I hope msbelle's cat pees on him.
Jesus christ, people.
Me, I'm just trying to do the one task I had for today and STILL can't focus on! My boss was just talking to me about bringing work home (I think suggesting I should do that), so maybe I will. Of course, if I don't get it done there, I'm really screwed. Argh!
Maybe it's just me, but I can't see holding a grudge against a small child as being very rational, or decent. Or for that matter, disliking a cat or dog for perfectly natural pet behavior.
I had Ethiopian food for lunch -- chicken with red pepper/tomato sauce, chickpeas in yellow (mellow) sauce, and lots of sour injera bread made from t'eff grain. And I have enough left over for lunch tomorrow!
I was supposed to replace the motherboard of a server. But I can't see well enough to pull all the cables off the old one. (In addition to lack of 3-d vision, I am becoming somewhat farsighted these days.) So I left it for my boss to do tomorrow.
ION, Unicorn Museum
Based on the idea of 'if it's in the Bible, it must be true', The Unicorn Museum promotes belief in the Biblical Truth of unicorns, a creature mentioned nine times in the KJV Bible.
This website has been published as an act of protest by the Brotherhood of Fantasy Creatures (MiddleEarth Div.157) in response to the injurious actions of the Creation Museum. The Creation Museum is a new $27 Million facility designed to teach the ‘truth’ of Creationism and the Christian Bible. We of the BFC feel that this group represents a threat to continued belief in other fantasy creatures/BFC signatory members and have constructed this website as a protest against their monopolistic and anti-competitive practices.
Um... eww?
Dear god no: Your gut has taste receptors
Researchers in the Department of Neuroscience at Mount Sinai School of Medicine have identified taste receptors in the human intestines. The taste receptor T1R3 and the taste G protein gustducin are critical to sweet taste in the tongue. Research now shows these two sweet-sensing proteins are also expressed in specialized taste cells of the gut where they sense glucose within the intestine.
“We now know that the receptors that sense sugar and artificial sweeteners are not limited to the tongue. Our work is an important advance for the new field of gastrointestinal chemosensation - how the cells of the gut detect and respond to sugars and other nutrients,” said lead author, Robert F. Margolskee, MD, PhD Professor of Neuroscience at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. “Cells of the gut taste glucose through the same mechanisms used by taste cells of the tongue. The gut taste cells regulate secretion of insulin and hormones that regulate appetite. Our work sheds new light on how we regulate sugar uptake from our diets and regulate blood sugar levels.”
I didn't know there were unicorns in the bible.
You got your green alligators,
And long-necked geese
Humpty-backed camels
And some chimpanzees
Cats and rats and elephants
But sure as you're born
Don't you forget My
Unicorn.
didn't know there were unicorns in the bible.
Yep. In the King James version, anyway. This gives the source of the King James unicorns: [link]
eta: stuff from the KJV:
Job 39:9-12: Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him? Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
Psalms 29:6: He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn.
Numbers 24:8: ...he hath as it were the strength of a unicorn
