lisah, these are the sentences I'm currently wrestling with:
Bebop subdivided the rhythm until swing was something you did between your ears instead of out on the dance floor. There was a time from the twenties through the mid-forties, though, when swing was "hot rhythm" and moved through every popular music. That's the music that Dan Hicks plays, and there's no one word for it because it wasn't limited to any one genre. Django Reinhardt and the Mills Brothers and Bob Wills and the Boswell sisters and the Modernaires all swung.
