Get up...get up, you stupid piece of... What did you do that for? What's wrong with you? Didn't you hear a word he said? All of you! You think there's someone just going to drop money on you?! Money they could use?! Well, there ain't people like that. There's just people like me.

Go Dana! Did you wear the dress slacks?

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Yay, Dana!! That sounds extremely promising!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Go Dana! Did you wear the dress slacks?

Hee. I wore slacks to the interview yesterday, which was Starbucks. Yesterday afternoon, the boss person asked if I could come in this morning. Since it was the actual office with an actual boss and everything, I wore a suit.

And she said, "Oh, I meant, to tell you we're more casual around here on Fridays, so you didn't have to break out a suit."

Second interview officially rocked

Awesome! This morning I managed to get on the bus right before the sky opened up, and the downpour stopped before I had to get off again, so maybe the universe likes us today and thinks we're pretty.

Always better to be overdressed, especially for an interview.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Go Dana!

Except they pay you.

Sigh.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Jessica--did you end up reserving some of the spice mixture for the icing?

Yep. I really liked how it turned out.

No tomato soup in this cake, though, just milk.

Theo, I'd feel weird about linking publicly to this one b/c it's not been officially published yet. But here is the link to sign up as a CI recipe tester.

Yay on the interview rockage, Dana!

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

The cake came out nice and moist, good crumb. I'd leave almost 1/2 a cup of sugar out if I made it again. Not sure what I'd do to make the icing lighter. Butter, sugar, cream cheese--nowhere to put much air.

Congratulations, Dana. I hope this works out for you.

Friday! I'm so damned excited.
