So you'd like it if guys, upon finding out your occupation, said, "Oh, is it true that software developers are easy lays?"
My answer, when confronted with this as a nurse, was "Not nearly as easy as men." But it was the '70s and they didn't get it.
In the 70s I was mostly doing accounting in radio stations. Don't know if it is any better for nurses, but generally most women I know encounter less stupid pervy comments than they did in previous decades. It certainly still happens, but women maybe have smacked them down some.

I'd hope it's better for everyone. I'm all for the smacking down of pervs.
I haven't actually dated since meeting DH in 1980, so I have no idea. And I'm happy about that!
ETA: More recently, however, I've had comments like, "Oh, I almost didn't read the e-mail because I figured it was porn" because of my nursebobbi e-mail address. So I got a new e-mail address to use with the 12,000+ subscriber veggie newsletter I manage.
Thinking quickly of my family and friend nurses, I pity the idiot that tries to say something pervy about their occupation.
I have met erika's dog. She's got personality and is ADORABLE!
Bobbi, your pack is lovely. Your friend's pool is also awesome.
buffysmglover, your cats are also verra cute.
My dog Sam is sort of a rescue and he's a shepherd mix. Very sweet and good with the kids. Oswald the cat has grown from a psycho kitten to a very mellow adult cat.
Lee, I think I like Perkins' Lion cut--I hope he forgives you.
Fred is FAT. I think he's going to be fine. He just cant jump up into the chair right now and I think it hurts him to walk.
Yes, erikaj, the only downside to dogs is the unreasonably short lifespan. I find it appalling that my sisters's evil parrot will probably outlive us all.
My friend's mom has threatened that he gets custody of her parrot when she dies—which date is hopefully still several decades away. I've always wondered why something that small with a relatively high metabolism can live practically forever when large livestock mammals can't.
Did you hear about the Chihuahua that saved the baby from the snake bite? I had heard the story, but hadn't seen the details. I was hearing bits and pieces from my dad, but he kept choking up around the details so I finally just looked it up. I have a chihuahua. She didn't alert me when there was smoke in the house. I picture her more like Brain, from Pinky and the Brain. She looks for opportunities that may get rid of the humans in her house.
I actually watched the people dump our cat that we had for several years. They slowed down their car, tossed it into a yard, and then sped off. I was so shocked by what I was seeing that to this day I can't remember what kind of car it was. I told my ex to look out the window, we just got a cat.
My dad was on road construction projects for years and witnessed many animals being dumped. Apparently people figured the workers would take home the animals. We got more than one puppy that way.
