This is my boat. They're part of my crew. No one's getting left. Best you get used to that.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

As Tom notes, they're only two eps into the season.

It's very intriguing so far. Even the characters which would normally be window dressing (the pretty blonde wife, the mousey new secretary) clearly have more going on with them. The male lead is charismatic, unfaithful, loving father, loving husband (even while cheating), slightly embittered war vet.

On Conseula's enthusiastic review, I also nabbed Saving Grace. It's got a lot going for it, starting with Holly Hunter. She's awesome! She's like Bad Lieutenant South.

Vincent Kartheiser looks so clean cut!

I didn't recognize at first! He's playing a very interesting weasel. I think their take on the sexism is interesting. It's rampant in the culture but they don't endorse it at all. In fact, I think they slyly undermine it in a lot of ways. There are certainly a lot of strong female characters in what is very definitely a man's world.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I think the Mad Men sexism is a little OTT now, which means they won't get back to it for the rest of the season.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Hec, I agree, it's very layered and interesting how they present the stereotypes and sexism. I do like how they show women perpetuating it on themselves and their coworkers.

Dog is my co-pilot.

the sexism is brutal

As are the anti-Semitism, racism, and homophobia. But it's set in 1960.

But you're right, DavidS. Nobody is particularly likeable, but everyone is interesting. So far, I must keep watching.

So is there anyone else here who actually remembers 1960?

ETA: In addition to VK, the cast includes Christina Hendricks (Firefly). And Andy Umberger (BtVS, AtS, Firefly) guested on the 2nd episode.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

What days is it on? I saw the first one, but missed the last. But this:

I agree with.

It was a dog from 7-11, so I ate it here at the office.

Love the Lochers tops.

I think they need to establish it to show how the women characters will deal with it. The female researcher rolls her eyes. The mousey secretary - is she going to become a copywriter? A snake in the grass? She's certainly ambitious and scheming. I think we'll see a scene with her where she gets a Stylish Makeover Of Arrival at some point. The bad girl with the red beehive is toying with the casual sexism, exploiting it. The wife is crumbling under it.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!

But if you find yourself sickly fascinated by what one can do with a photograph of a perfectly adorable, normal child, you should click through to this baby shot. Ack! Since when do infants wear mascara? My favorite part of this one (where "favorite part" is defined as "horrifying use of Photoshop") is the "enhancement" that says "Drool removed from mouth." I mean, come on. You already blended the baby's skin, added lashes, boosted her flesh tones to "peachy hues," and gently faded her dark circles "while natural eye creases are preserved for a natural finish." In other words, you've taken away her dignity. Can't you at least let her keep her drool?

Yeah, it's clear one of the copywriters is gay and in the closet. I was born in '61 but I do still remember much of that culture growing up.
