If JDM can reappear on GA why can't he come back to Supernatural and haunt the boys?

Because ABC pays better than the CW? Because he likes Shonda and is really grateful to her? I think JDM would be happy to come back for a guest shot or two, but his business people find him better money and more exposure elsewhere, and unless you don't need the money, you have to go where the money is.
Yes. What Bev said. I'm betting he has nothing against doing a John reprise, but how would that help his career? He'd be moving backwards. He can do ABC and still retain street cred.
I was watching True Blood and when Bill popped out of the ground all naked and grimey, then proceded to have sex with Sookie, and that grossed me out.
You know what> I was completely grossed out by this too, but it was more that he was dirty than the fact he was dead. I just couldn't imagine having sex with someone who was covered in dirt. That just gives me the ick. I cannot believe I prioritize that over "being alive."
but how would that help his career?
It will make us love him more? It would make us really happy?
Yeah, I guess I don't mind the dead as long as it's freshly showered? I don't understand myself either.

I wondered about this the other day when the Jim Beaver thing happened. Is the character of John too built up now to be even playable?
Honestly, I think Sam and Dean have moved on. They've faced so much more since John's death than they--or he--ever imagined they would, and they're really no longer youngsters in need of his guidance.
I would *love* to see John fighting on his sons' side--whether that's on the side of the angels or a whole other stand. But I don't think it's a practical story at this point, not with the plotlines and the arc as they seem to be unspooling.
I've mentioned before, too, JDM is at the age break point in film right now. He can be a known lead actor with a dues-paid background at 40 or so. But playing 50-60? Not going to do his image any good to be remembered by casting offices in roles older than he is. If anything, he'll go for younger.
None of which are meta reasons why we don't get John Winchester on our screens. But sometimes the meta is thin and reality calls the shots.

Things that make you go hmmm. Off my flist, food for thought:
Alastair/Alistair/Alisdair? How about Alastor?
(from various sources)
Alastor is chief executioner to the monarch of Hell.
Alastor is likened to Nemesis and the destroying angel and is known as The Executioner. He is exceptionally cruel.
Alastor ("avenger") in Greek mythology, was the personification of familial feuds. He was also associated with sins that pass down from parent to child. As a genius, or spirit of the household in Roman mythology, he incited people to murder and other sins. The name became a generic term for a class of evil spirits.
