What is even happening?

I never understood why Dracula kept coming back.

He had those "Gypsy Parlor Trick" powers, so I always took it that he was making himself dematerialize as Buffy staked him, so she never quite got him. It just looked like she did.

But then I never understood why the Master had bones, either.

Why wouldn't he have bones? Vampires have bones.

Outside the story, I was okay with all the shooting elements being homage-ic. But inside the story, I assumed all the monster movie qualities were a creation of the shapeshifter. It seemed a stretch that he'd be able to die in his character as well. I guess that's my one big nitpick, the shapeshifter should have died as one would die in the Supernatural world, without theatrics, just cold and dead. (It would have been cool if the color washed in at the same moment...)

Oh, I'm glad they didn't do that. The whole episode was predicated on even Sam and Dean thinking this case was weird. It's been a long time since I've watched either "Skin" or "Night Shifter" so I can't remember whether shifters changed forms as they died.

I think this shifter was a little different too, because he wasn't copying himself based on people he saw in person -- so he could keep duplicating the same forms, whenever he needed to change skins.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Thing is, we don't actually know that it was a shapeshifter. San 'n' Dean thought it was, yes, but it could have been something else, a relation to shifters or something.

But not after they've been dusted!

Nope. This is how Dean was determined to be Deady McDeadperson in S1. He killed the shifter while it was disguised as him.

Thing is, we don't actually know that it was a shapeshifter. San 'n' Dean thought it was, yes, but it could have been something else, a relation to shifters or something.

Where are you getting that? I'm not seeing that from my viewing, to be honest. It looked like a shifter, shed like a shifter, acted like a shifter--well, okay, as all three shifters have had different motivations, that last one's a little strong! It's a duck!

I do believe in killing the messenger, you know why? Because it sends a message. ~ Damon Salvatore

his eyes also did that whole retinal flash at some point in the episode too, i think.

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

it could have been something else, a relation to shifters or something.

The crazy cousins shifters keep in the attic?

Oh. Duh. I plead staying up the entire night to get the recap in on time. And dumbness. I think it's still fanwankable, though. The Master was so old, he was starting to change physically. Remember he sort of looked like a bat? I remember Joss saying something about vampires almost sort of devolving. There was that Kissing Toast vamp from "Faith, Hope, and Trick," who had the cloven thing going on and I can't remember what my point was about him, except that they do seem to change physically. Yeah. That was it. What thread am I in?

Thing is, we don't actually know that it was a shapeshifter. San 'n' Dean thought it was, yes, but it could have been something else, a relation to shifters or something.

So he could have been a mutant mutant?

Well, the motivations might have been somewhat different, but not the catalyst. I was impressed that Drac's manipulative speech called back to the idea of shifters being outcasts.

1 & 3 fit that. Shifter 2 is more of a mystery shifter. Except that we know shifter 2 liked the money.

Which, you know, now I'm thinking of the shifter-as-symbol in the show, and the way that's... shifted, if you will. Our first one we have as a mirror of Dean (through his own eyes, or through Sam's? I need to work on this one and flesh it out--when I lost my EXTENSIVE Wendigo notes, I was disheartened and pouty and didn't get back on my planned episode-by-episode analysis of Monster-as-Mirror, which, okay, fine, means I only ever did the pilot, but, whatever--you could argue that the shifter in Skin is meant to reflect some of Sam's more negative views of his brother and their upbringing and insert the rest of the thought that I'm having problems articulating here), the third is the monster as the outsider (VICTOR!!!) POV of the Winchesters, a duplicitous monster, a thief, a murderer, brutal and without a readily apparent motivation (I could probably have more here, but then I get distracted by my favorite dead FBI guy and get sad). The third we see as a mirror of Sam and the path Sam may or may not be on, depending on who you believe. Tellingly, Jamie basically calls him on the part where, yes, there were external factors, but ultimately, he the shifter was the one who was choosing to do wrong, bringing us back to that whole notion of choice and responsibility for actions that we've seen bubbling up around Sam.

Err. Sorry for the raw notes here.

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

Interview with JPAD - cameo appearance by JDM.

Okay, a couple things. 1) why does JP look so hot in the interview? Damn, I might choose him over JA there. 2) Is it really bad that I watched the JDM and JP hug four or five times, because it was like getting John hugging Sam? "Dad." Oh JDM.

Err. Sorry for the raw notes here.

Never apologize for giving us awesome things to read. :)

"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

Has it been one or two weeks without Castiel? Feels like thirty.

I'm hoping with all the press and positive response that Misha got, Kripke will be trying to write him in more episodes. Well, that didn't work out so well for Ellen, but I can still hope.

I should never have seen that JP interview because now I want more John.

eta: It's terrible but in the SPN fandom, I feel the need to preface my opinion on a female character. I liked the actress from the 4400 with Dean, I liked Lisa with Dean (and I still believe she is the mother of his child), I LOVED beyond reason Carmen with Dean, but I am not feeling any love for Jamie. The only time her character didn't annoy me was when she saved herself. I guess she isn't bad, I just didn't find her likeable. And none of this really matters except to say, I'm over in the other camp, not loving Jamie. I like the name.
