"What would it take to get your daughter to stop tweeting about this?"

I haven't read the story yet, but I can't wait! Being reminded of Ellen made me swing by samanthaferris.net. I was reading through one of her Q & A's and saw this about season two (which is not spoilery because its only her view)

Q: what would my reaction to Jo being John's? and is Bobby a good replacement for John?
A: well I think that Jo IS John's.....but i don't know. Ellen knows. Deep down she knows but she is the only one. Bobby is a good man for those boys but he will never be John. Never.

Huh. I mean, I thought about Jo being John's, and there were theories, but guess I didn't really think of it as much of a possibility. Wouldn't that be weird if it was a probability? So, she thinks Jo is John's. That still leaves me with the reaction of "Huh."

edited again to add prediction: I'm not going to last the weekend without looking at spoilers. The anticipation of the first episode is building too much. I will break by Monday at the latest.

Anne, that is one of the best Ellen stories I have ever read. I have such over the top love for her and I found that just incredible.

Hmm. I like the idea of Ellen having had something with John, however messed up and tormented -- but I really don't like the idea of Jo being John's daughter. Especially given that Jo was originally introduced as a possible love-interest for Dean. That's a bit too incesty, in a fandom that's already got plenty of it.

Yeah, I kind of thought at the time that's what Ellen was going to tell Jo to keep them apart. But that isn't the direction they went.

But I can see it.

Thank you, Austin!

This, and it's not just the potential incesty vibes that would come from it. Another issue I have is believing that John would sleep with another man's (especially a friend's) wife so close to his own wife's death (Jo's not that much younger than Sam, right?).

I can, however, easily imagine any number of circumstances when they might hook up later, most likely for something they'd both dismiss right after as a "just this once/this was a mistake" kind of thing. Repeated a few times, perhaps, but hardly a grand romance and hardly healthy.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I'm sitting on Anne's bench. I just can't make myself believe that Jo is John's, I never considered it as a possibility.

Consuela, I'm still wading through the summergens I want to read, and I haven't gotten to yours yet. But I have it marked, and I'm sort of using it as a carrot to get other stuff done.

You know, I miss smoking. "When I finish this pile of filing I'll slip out for a smoke. Okay, maybe this pile, too. And I can take the mail on my way out." Fic sort of gives me the same mental and emotional kick as a reward for Getting Stuff Done.

It is very good, and I would not mind seeing a sequel should Consuela ever wish to write one.

I still have a number of fics to go through. Ones that were shorter I tended to read on the spot if time permitted, but there are a number I noted as "ooh, gotta read that later."

The scenario that I can see is that John was so wrapped up with grief and trying to take care of the boys in that first year that any words of comfort or assistance from Ellen with the boys while they were little could have turned to more. Not love, but gratitude, and wanting something to take the pain away. The remorse may have been the reason why the boys were never around her when they were old enough to remember her. In fact, after that, I can see John shutting down even more emotionally and being the man we met.

I was just coming up with a scenario that really makes sense to me though. I'm perfectly fine with Jo not being John's daughter. :) I'm so in love with Mary after Dean's genie episode that I'm more than fine with John never being with anyone again.

status: still not spoiled. prediction: I will be by this time tomorrow.
