Yay Pie! As for John I admit I have a soft spot for him too. Thank goodness for fic. That character has so much room for development. Of course my initial like for the actor really began when he played Denny on Gray's Anatomy. Flirty and sweet cardiac patient...c'mon, who couldn't love that? I think there must be a squishy Denny deep down in there somewhere, it explains the snarling angst. It is nice to be able to admit a John attraction without being "ewww'd". My mom and sister are fans as well and they can't stand John.

I apologize for over-explaining if that's the case. At the recent Chicago CreationCon, Jensen was asked who would win in a fight between Dean and Jack Bauer. Jensen asked, "Isn't Keifer like, tiny?" And when assured he was, Jensen said, "I'd kick his ass." Jared nodded.

Oh, there are a lot of posters here who are great admirers of John, never fear. I, however, am not one of them. So we reach all ranges along the spectrum. (I agree the actor is hot as hell. I just don't like the character.)

Part of it is the hotness of the actor; but also part of it is my longstanding competence!kink. (Which meant, frankly, that not a lot of the men in the Buffyverse really did it for me, except occasionally, because hardly anyone in the Buffyverse gets to be really competent all the time. Except for Buffy, I guess.)

Darlini, I suppose your mother and sister should know they're not alone: even the showrunner thinks John's an asshole. In which case he really screwed up by hiring JDM.

No promo makes me a sad panda *frowns*. With John Winchester it is interesting because I do think he's an asshole and I think that his sons have definitely paid the price for his asshole-dom. However, I understand the reasons behind it and maybe that is where the soft spot comes from. He is (was?) a man in serious pain and maybe that brings out the nurturer in me. And, like ya said, the actor is hot. Either that or it is a case of daddy issues. =P I mean I always had a thing for Giles (another 'ewww' from the fam). The funny thing is that the men in the Buffyverse are always more attractive to me when they are evil/bad in some way. So, though I do have a thing for older intellectuals with British accents, Ripper is hotter than Giles; though I have a thing for dark-haired emo boys (fangs notwithstanding) I like Angelus better than Angel and I will admit to shipper-dom at at least one point. At least Angelus has a sense of humor. If I had to choose a Buffyverse boy though it would be Spike. I am a fully converted Spuffy.
