Usually the latter, Sail.
Some of the most spectacular shouting matches I've ever been in with a group of people that I'm more or less fond of have been over the particulars and applications of Asshole rules.
It's also not too much fun if some of your friends are spiteful drunks.
I sort of miss drinking games. Although I was total crap at quarters.
I do not, however, miss the hangovers.
I'm so lacking in culture of drinking games. The only thing I ever played was quarters. But then, I wasn't much of a drinker until I got divorced and then all my drinking was done in bars and the only game was walking around on two legs
Is this where I attempt to tell lies to disguise my pure-as-the-driven-snow yout'? Growing up Baptist was tough, y'all.

York!City! and could finally have a beer.
Polgara and I have played SPN (and GA and once even Muppet Show) drinking games via AIM. That was fun.
I think I miss the meatspace camaraderie of it, though. About eight of us sitting in my friend L.'s kitchen while her mom was out, smoking Marlboro Lights and blasting Springsteen or U2.
And occasionally being drunk enough to get up and slur out a spontaneous version of "Greased Lightning."
I've never played drinking games. Grew up Baptist and rather repressed.
My brother didn't have the same problems and more than once Mom found evidence of drinking games he hadn't cleaned up.
